Glad that you mentioned the Laken-Riley act. It's very ugly to have immigration consequences simply for being accused of a crime. I've encountered horrible stories of, for example, a child grabbing a stuffed animal while shopping with mom, and mom getting accused of shoplifting. Charges dismissed, case closed, just a misunderstanding -- but Laken-Riley is still triggered.
